Curated by art historian Lü Peng, this exhibition brings together nearly 100 major works by more than 50 contemporary Chinese artists. Spanning four decades, it charts a “surreal map of the Chinese psyche,” offering an art-historical perspective on the development of contemporary Chinese painting and exploring how art redefines “reality” amid the tides of information and technology.
In addition, initiated by curator Lü Peng, a group of participating artists carried out a collective improvised creation prior to the opening. Together they completed a 20-meter-long Surrealist scroll, presenting their diverse interpretations of “Surrealism” through a single collaborative work.
