L-Art X Zhang Zhaoying

L-Art Gallery (Shenzhen) officially opened its new space on the second floor of the Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning on November 9, and was honored to present the solo exhibition Lifelong Picture by artist Zhang Zhaoying. Continuing the artist’s Lifelong series, this exhibition used “reflection/project” (映) and “image/paint” (画) as a thread to explore the complex relationship between images, history, and contemporary visual experience.

The exhibition presented a selection of the artist’s recent works, including the Oriental Tales series, which uniquely incorporated cinematic elements. Through appropriation, collage, and theatrical staging, Zhang Zhaoying juxtaposed heterogeneous elements—such as classical paintings, consumer symbolism, film stills, and fragments of art history—within the same frame. This approach not only revealed the proliferation of desire-driven images and the erosion of historical depth within a society of spectacle, but also constructed an alternative spatial field—a “heterotopian theater”—imbued with both absurdity and reflection.

The exhibition ran until January 15, 2026. Audiences were warmly welcomed.
