The Chinese edition of A History of Chinese Art in the 20th and 21st Century by Professor Lü Peng is now officially available online. This volume represents the fourth revised edition in the series A History of Chinese Art in the 20th Century . Based on the author’s long-standing scholarly research on Chinese art history since the 19th century, with a particular focus on the 20th century, this revised edition substantially updates and expands the existing framework, forming a comprehensive academic work that traces the development of Chinese art from the late Qing dynasty to the early 21st century.
In this revision, the original content has been thoroughly reviewed and refined, with a particular emphasis on the addition and restructuring of material related to the development of Chinese contemporary art since 2000. As a result, the book has been significantly expanded in terms of chronological scope, documentation, and theoretical perspective, offering a more complete and nuanced account of the complex evolution of Chinese art in the process of modernization. The English edition of the book was published earlier this year by Macmillan, providing international scholars with a systematic and authoritative reference on modern and contemporary Chinese art.
To promote the broader dissemination of academic research and encourage scholarly exchange, the author has chosen to release this revised Chinese edition as an open-access e-book on his personal website, where it is freely available for online reading and download. It is hoped that this open-access publication will extend the reach of this research and stimulate further discussion and academic dialogue on the history of modern and contemporary Chinese art.
